Partner Joseph Cammarata Discusses the United Airlines Incident on iNews24

Last week, Partner Joseph Cammarata appeared on i24News to discuss the recent United Airlines incident in which David Dao, a 69-year-old doctor from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was forcibly removed from a flight. United employees asked for volunteers to de-board due to overbooking. When no one volunteered, United then called for officers working for the Chicago Department of Aviation to remove passengers.

The incident was recorded by a fellow passenger who captioned the video, “the man is a doctor and has to be at the hospital in the morning. He did not want to get off.” During the violent incident, Dr. Dao suffered a concussion, a broken nose, and lost 2 front teeth. After the video went viral, it was revealed the Dr. Dao had a previous criminal record.

On iNews24, reporter David Shuster brought Partner Joseph Cammarata, as a guest on his program Stateside, to discuss the liability of United Airlines and potentially how much money the company will have to pay to resolve this issue. Mr. Cammarata stated that United should expect to pay a substantial amount of money. Dr. Dao suffered a concussion which is a brain injury and Dr. Dao will need to be evaluated for permanent and long-term side effects. His broken nose requires surgery, and he will need significant dental work after the loss of his two front teeth. In addition, Dr. Dao may suffer a loss of earnings or a decrease in his capacity to earn money. Further, Mr. Cammarata spoke about how Dr. Dao also suffered non-economic damages, such as pain, mental anguish, embarrassment and significant public humiliation not only as a result of being dragged off the plane, but over the exposure of his criminal background.

Additionally, if United does not fully and fairly compensate Dr. Dao by way of settlement, then a jury of his peers will determine the appropriate compensation for the injuries and damages he suffered from the incident.
