Tradition plays a big role in this firm. I walked into this building, this house at 1232 17th Street over 30 years ago, and we are still here today, and we are still fighting for people. I felt that when I walked into this building and I said, this is what I want to do. This is where I want to be. The lawyers here at Chakin Sherman, Camarata and Siegel have always been on the forefront of changing law and what’s happening now. Not every law firm will understand when you have, for example, a rideshare case involving Lyft or Uber, but at this firm we do. I’m actually on the executive committee of the Rideshare Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice, and what that means is I’m on the leadership of a national organization, which is intended to teach other lawyers how to handle this type of litigation.
So I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. My father was a lawyer, so I’ve always been around him, and I’ve always watched him and I’ve always was able to see what he was doing and aspire to do that. This year was a very special year for me. I won the DC Trial Lawyer of the Year award, but it was really special in a number of ways. Number one, my whole family was there to celebrate with me. I received it actually at Nat Stadium, which I’m a big Nationals fan, and it was very special to receive it there. I care about what I do because I get to wake up every morning knowing that I’m going to be able to help someone. People come to us in their worst situations, really, really tragic situations, and they’re looking to us to help them. What I saw in this firm when I came here over 30 years ago was a dedication towards helping people in ways that they couldn’t help themselves. My name is Alan Siegel, and I’m one of the partners here at Chakin Sherman Camarata and Siegel.
