The Downing of the Germanwings Aircraft

By: Ira Sherman

Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all the passengers whose lives were lost in the Germanwings airline crash. The acknowledged failure of the Lufthansa-owned budget-flight spin-off, Germanwings to protect its passengers from the actions of the co-pilot proved to be fatal to all 150 people on Flight 9525. Germanwings lawsuit

Nothing can bring loved ones back, but the families of the victims do have an opportunity to pursue justice and accountability against Lufthansa, the flag ship carrier of Germanwings. The pursuit of accountability can provide full information to the families about what tragically occurred, and in so doing can spur needed change in aviation safety so that other families will not experience such loss.

Seeking such accountability will necessarily involve complex matters of international law and conflict of laws as well as superlative litigation skills whether there is a negotiated settlement or whether there is a trial.

Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. would be pleased to discuss these issues without any obligation of cost with any family members of the victims. In this undertaking we have secured the assistance and expertise of Dr. Allan Gerson. Dr. Gerson initiated the lawsuit on behalf of the families of the victims of the PanAm 103 Lockerbie downing. The story of that epic struggle, which resulted in a settlement of $2.7 billion from Libya, is recounted in the book "The Price of Terror: How the Families of PanAm 103 Brought Libya to Justice" (2011). Dr. Gerson, a former professor of international law and a US government official, has recently applied his experience to this tragedy in a recently published article.
