Washington, D.C. – WTOP News recently interviewed Joseph Cammarata, partner at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C., about the legal and financial hurdles associated with clearing homeless encampments in Washington, D.C.
With former President Trump proposing executive action to remove encampments, Cammarata weighed in on the constitutional and liability risks if removals are conducted without due process.
“If authorities conduct mass removals without reasonable suspicion or probable cause, the city could face serious legal challenges,” Cammarata explained.
Beyond legal concerns, he also highlighted the significant costs of relocating individuals and providing necessary support services.
