The Country’s Largest Payday Lender is Ordered to Pay Almost $19 million to North Carolina Consumers for Illegal Overcharges

The law firm of Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C., in particular Partner Ira Sherman, has successfully filed court cases under the District of Columbia Consumer Protection Act . In North Carolina, a class action law suit accused Advance America of charging illegal fees and interest rates from consumers who got payday loans from Advance America or National Cash Advance in North Carolina on or after March 1, 2003. If the settlement is approved, individuals who took out such loans will not need to file a claim to participate in the settlement. Instead, if the settlement is approved, checks will be mailed to all class members who can be located beginning the first half of 2011.
