Partner Joseph Cammarata Featured on CNN to Discuss Stormy Daniels & President Trump Legal Implications

Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. Partner Joseph Cammarata recently appeared on CNN Newsroom with Brooke Baldwin to discuss Stormy Daniels’ alleged sexual relationship with President Donald Trump. Daniels’ legal team has taken legal action against President Trump and his personal attorney Michael Cohen, both of whom have publicly denied her allegations, seeking to dissolve a nondisclosure agreement she and Cohen signed over a decade ago, and accusing Cohen of defamation. As Daniels’ attorneys have cited the notable Paula Jones lawsuit against former President Bill Clinton, CNN turned to Partner Cammarata to share his insight on civil lawsuits against current Presidents.

In the 1990s, Partner Cammarata was one of the attorneys who represented Paula Jones in her sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton, which Clinton’s legal representatives vehemently tried to delay and dismiss. That case eventually reached the Supreme Court of the United States, where Partner Cammarata and his co-counsel argued successfully before SCOTUS Justices to secure a unanimous decision allowing the lawsuit against the President to proceed. The Supreme Court ruling held that a sitting President does not have immunity from civil lawsuits involving private misconduct.

The major victory Partner Cammarata helped secure in the Paula Jones case set a precedent he says would still apply to President Trump today, and which would make him subject to fact-finding and providing testimony under oath, just as any private citizen accused of wrongdoing or misconduct would. As he states in his interview with Brooke Baldwin, “We don’t have Kings in our society. We’re all equal before the eyes of the law.”
