Huge Northwest Apartment Fire, 1 Person Found Dead

Sunday morning, June 26, 2017- Police found the body of 1 unidentified person in the remnants of a large NW apartment fire. Over 200 people were displaced due to the fire at the 1300 block of Peabody Street, NW. Residents had to jump out of windows and crawl across the floor to escape the fire. Most people did not speak English as their first language, and were very distraught over losing many, if not all, of their important documents in the blaze. As the Washington Post reported, the cause is still unknown. It is also unknown whether or not the 200 residents of the building will ever be able to return, as there was significant damage to the building, going from the basement to the upper floors.

This is an incredibly sad tale, and a tale that too often may be due to improper maintenance of public gas utilities, faulty wiring, negligently installed gas or propane lines, failure to implement a fire safety program, or nonfunctioning smoke detectors. The attorneys of Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. have the experience and reputation to secure favorable verdicts and settlements for those injured by preventable fires.
