March 12th is Brain Injury Awareness Day

By: Allan M. Siegel

The month of March has been marked as Brain Injury Awareness Month by the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). During this month, advocates, politicians, brain injury survivors and their families work to spread the word about the tremendous impact traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can have on the lives of victims and their loved ones. Many efforts are also made to increase awareness about TBI treatment and the need for new research.

Washington DC Brain Injury Lawyer

As part of Brain Injury Awareness day, an all-day event will be held on Capitol Hill. The event will feature the following:

  • Brain Injury Awareness Fair in the morning
  • Congressional briefing in the afternoon
  • Evening reception

All events on Brain Injury Awareness Day are open to the public. At Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, our Washington, DC brain injury lawyers will be observing the day by expressing our support for local victims and families affected by brain injuries, including concussions. Throughout the years, our legal team has been leaders in the field of brain injury advocacy.

Our efforts in the brain injury field have included:

  • Representing many TBI and concussion victims.
  • Representing athletes who have suffered from the effects of chronic brain injury. Our clients have ranged from youth and school-age players to professional athletes from various sports, including the National Football League and Major League Soccer.
  • Partners Joseph Cammarata and Ira Sherman are co-founders of the Brain Injury Association of Washington, DC (BIADC). Mr. Sherman is currently the Treasurer of the Brain Injury Association of America and the Vice President of the BIADC. Mr. Cammarata is the President and Treasurer of the Brain Injury Association of Washington, DC.
  • Partner Joseph Cammarata drafted the Athletic Concussion Protection Act of 2011, which became law. The Act protects youth athletes throughout the District of Columbia from brain injuries in sports by creating strict guidelines for removing players from practice or play after a concussion. It also establishes concussion training programs for coaches, trainers, and teachers.

Our firm is proud of the role we have played in protecting the rights of brain injury victims and their loved ones, as well as our efforts to further awareness about these serious, life-altering injuries. We are confident that Brain Injury Awareness Day will again be a success.
