Partner Joseph Cammarata Featured on Fox News, WJLA (ABC News), News Channel 8 & WNEW Radio to Discuss President Obama's Concussion Summit

Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. is pleased to announce that Partner Joseph Cammarata was recently featured on several media outlets to share his thoughts on President Obama's Healthy Kids & Safe Sports Concussion Summit at the White House. Attorney Cammarata is President of the Brain Injury Association of Washington, DC and has also drafted the Athletic Concussion Protection Act of 2011 to protect youth athletes from the risk of concussions, which became law in the District of Columbia.

Attorney Cammarata's discussions centered on President Obama's call for more and better research into the risks and treatment of concussions in youth athletes. As national attention has focused on concussions in professional sports, President Obama has expressed his intent to focus attention on how concussions – which are a form of a traumatic injury (TBI) – can affect young athletes.

Drawing from his extensive experience handling cases involving brain injuries and athlete injuries, Attorney Cammarata discussed how to prevent, identify, and respond to concussions. He emphasized that a concussion is in fact a TBI, which can affect an individual's ability to function, in both the short-term and long-term. A concussion can also potentially lead to permanent impairments, depending on the severity of the injury.
