Energy Drink Consumption

energy drink consumption

The consumption of energy drinks has been alleged to cause significant adverse health consequences, such as insomnia, nervousness, rapid heart beat and death. A key component of energy drinks is caffeine. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating whether energy drinks pose health risks to persons who are vulnerable to excess caffeine consumption. Recently, the FDA has announced that it is investigating the safety of caffeinated-food products on children and adolescents.

In response to the investigation, Wrigley stopped production and sale of its new energy gum called Alert. Each piece of gum contained about half of the amount of caffeine in an eight ounce cup of coffee. Partner and Personal Injury Defense Attorney Joseph Cammarata has been appointed co-chairman of the Energy Drinks Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice.
