Warning to Parents if Your Child is on Antidepressant Medications

The Food and Drug Administration, in response to increased suicides in children and adults, that have been prescribed antidepressant drugs require that warnings be issued.

Contact your doctor if your child experiences any of the following while taking antidepressants:

  • Thoughts about suicide or dying
  • Attempts to commit suicide
  • New or worse depression
  • New or worse anxiety
  • Feeling very agitated or restless
  • Panic attacks
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • New or worse irritability
  • Acting aggressive, angry or violent
  • Acting on dangerous impulses
  • Extreme increase in activity or talking
  • Other unusual changes in behavior or mood
