On February 10, 2011, Councilman David Catania, Chairman of the Health Committee for the District of Columbia held hearings on the "Athletic Concussion Protection Act of 2011". This Act, which will be described in great detail in another blog, generally protects youth athletes in the event they show signs and symptoms of a concussion during an athletic event. Council member Catania held hearings in the council chambers. Representatives of the NFL, the Washington Redskins, Children's Hospital and Ira Sherman, Vice President of DC Brain Injury Association were among the many people to testify in favor of the passage of this bill. We will keep you informed of the progress of this bill and hopefully its passage.
