WABA 2018 Bicyclists’ Choice Awards

by | Feb 9, 2018

This year it was our pleasure to attend and support the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA) 2018 Bicyclists’ Choice Awards. WABA is a vital organization to the bicyclist community in our region. Its advocacy has helped bring more protected bike lanes and bike commuting routes to the DC metro area, and it even worked tirelessly to help change the outdated contributory negligence law for bicyclists and pedestrians in the District. Our firm also works with WABA to present a workshop called “What to Do After a Bike Crash.” WABA is committed to making bicycling accessible for people of all ages and walks of life, through its class dedicated solely to first time adult bicyclists. And, WABA’s social rides, outings, and trips, have created a close-knit group of loyal supporters and grassroots advocates.

This year’s awards gave recognition to advocates in the community. Among the winners was a young mother who helped reopen the Georgetown bike trail, so she and her daughter could bike to school together each day. Another winner was local bike shop, Phoenix Bikes, which has created a youth program to teach teenagers and young adults bike mechanic skills. Mayor Allison Silberberg accepted an award on behalf of the City of Alexandria for its participation in and commitment to the Vision Zero project. And, DDOT also accepted an award for its commitment to creating more bike commuting routes, and dedication to enforcing bike safety violations in the District.

We are proud to sponsor WABA in their efforts and dedication to making biking in our region safer, easier, and more fun. If you are a local bicyclist and are not already a member of this wonder organization, please consider joining!
