Traumatic Brain Injury Support Groups

Washington, DC, Maryland, & Virginia

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can result from any number of accidents or traumas. The personal injury lawyers at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C. believe that all individuals suffering from a traumatic brain injury need unconditional support. There are groups throughout the Washington, DC and Maryland areas specifically dedicated to helping those who suffer from a TBI.

These support groups are led by people with experience in dealing with TBI and can assist the patient, family members and caregivers. The interaction within the group can help with adjusting to handicaps caused by brain injuries. The patients and their loved ones are able to freely share concerns, problems and experiences while also gaining important information from others in the group. Essential elements of a support group are:

  • The opportunity to speak openly about your experience
  • A safe environment for sharing without judgment
  • Knowing you are not alone in your situation
  • Receiving and giving an opportunity for real understanding
  • The chance to face fears and get in touch with your needs
  • A place to find courage and make steps toward a better quality of life

Most support groups meet at a regular time and location one or two times each week or month. The meetings typically follow a regular schedule and agenda. In most cases, anyone can attend without an appointment or fee, and regular attendance is not mandatory.
