Experience with Train Accident Litigation
Our firm has extensive experience litigating train accident cases, including
cases against WMATA (Metro), Amtrak, and CSX transportation. We have represented victims
from almost every major catastrophic train accident that has occurred in the District of Columbia area over the last decade.
Below are examples of train accident cases we have handled:
- We successfully handled a wrongful death case on behalf of the family of
one of the individuals that died in the June 22, 2009 crash involving
two Red Line Washington Metro trains near the Fort Totten Metro station.
Partners Joe Cammarata and Allan M. Siegel served on the steering committee
for the multi-party litigation that resulted following this tragic case.
The Fort Totten Red Line crash resulted in nine deaths, and is the deadliest
crash in the history of the Washington Metro.
- We successfully represented a victim involved in a 2004 Metro train crash
in Woodley Park Metro station in which the colliding train climbed on
the roof of the other train, sheering the aluminum shell off one of the
cars. The crash resulted in the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
recommending that Metro retire its older railcars and replace them with
more crashworthy cars, or improve collision protection of older railcars.
Victims of the crash were able to recover compensation for their physical
injuries and the emotional suffering they endured as a result of being
involved in such a traumatic event.
- Our firm represented a victim injured in the 2002 Amtrak derailment in
Kensington, Maryland and obtained compensation for both her physical and
- Our lawyers successfully resolved a case on behalf of a client injured
in the 1996 derailment of a MARC Train in Silver Spring, Maryland. The
collision was caused by negligence of the crew and resulted in the creation
of comprehensive federal rules for passenger car design and operating rules.
The laws governing train accidents are highly complex and it takes sophisticated
representation from an accident attorney to provide you with the greatest
likelihood of success in your claim. Our legal team will investigate every
aspect of the accident to ensure you get fair compensation for your injuries.
Our attention to detail will ensure that no aspect of your case will be
overlooked, and that train companies are held fully accountable for its
failures to maintain a safe system for its passengers.
We represent clients throughout the DC metro area and have offices in Maryland,
Virginia, and Washington, DC.
