On Tuesday morning, January 5th, a pedestrian crossing an intersection in Bethesda, Maryland suffered severe injuries after she was struck by a Ride On bus. The collision, which occurred as the bus was turning from Battery Lane onto Old Georgetown Road, caused both sides of the street to be closed for four hours as officers investigated the incident.

DC Bus Accident LawyersMontgomery County Fire and Rescue Service officials stated that the pedestrian accident occurred around 8:00 am on Tuesday morning. As of now, authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, and do not know if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the incident. She was taken to a local hospital and is reportedly in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

This morning’s incident comes after a string of bus accidents in the region, including a recent crash near Richmond that injured over 30 college students and another pedestrian accident in which a victim was pinned under a Greyhound Bus in NW DC.

The incidents bear resemblance to another pedestrian accident case recently resolved by Partner Joseph Cammarata last October for a $4.5 million verdict. In that case, Partner Cammarata represented a pedestrian who was struck from behind by an Alexandria Transit Bus while crossing an intersection. The victim experienced life-altering injuries as a result of the crash, which was caused in part by the bus driver’s speed and inattention.

Although investigations are still on-going into the Bethesda crash, law enforcement will look to determine if the pedestrian was in the intersection at the time, whether they had the right-of-way, and if the bus driver or company committed any violations that may have contributed to the incident. This information is crucial in determining not only what happened, but also whether a person or entity can be held responsible for the victim’s damages.
