Allstate has released its 2014 Best Driver's Report which lists 200 cities in America with the best and worst drivers. The report ranks cities based on the average number of years drivers go between accidents, and is based on the frequency of property collision claims made by Allstate-insured drivers in the country's 200 largest cities from 2011-2012.
Way down at the bottom of the list, at 198, is Washington, DC, with 5.1 years between accidents, and only slightly better at 193, is Alexandria, VA, with 5.9 years between accidents. The District fares better than only Boston, MA, with 4.4 years between accidents, and Worcester, MA, at 4.3 years. Both Alexandria and the District did worse this year than in last year's rankings, falling 5 and 4 spots, respectively. Residents of the District are 97.3% more likely to have an accident than the national average of once every 10 years, with Alexandria at 68.2% more likely. For perspective, residents of Fort Collins, CO, did best, going 14.2 years between accidents.
These numbers are an unfortunate reminder that auto accidents are a far too common occurrence in the DC and Northern Virginia area. It's important while driving to make sure to stay alert and keep your attention on the road. Unfortunately, even when you do everything right, someone else's carelessness can cause an accident, resulting in injury to you. That's why it's essential that you make sure to take all the right steps following an accident to best protect your interests.
