Pharmaceutical industry replaces the defense industry as having the most whistleblower cases against it.

Previously, the defense industry was the most targeted industry by employees for the purposes of blowing the whistle on government fraud and waste. Now the pharmaceutical industry has taken over as the #1 area for whistleblowing. With the government picking up more and more of the nation’s healthcare costs, generally through Medicaid or Medicare, the focus has shifted to doctors, hospitals, drugmakers and other industry players. The rich reward, frequently in the millions of dollars, to whistleblowers has encouraged the use of the Federal False Claims Act. It is the intention of the Federal False Claims Act to encourage whistleblowers by rewarding them millions of dollars because in the end, the taxpayers- and that means you- save money.
